SparkFun WIZnet WIZ110SR Serial-to-Ethernet Gateway Module

The WIZnet WIZ110SR is a dedicated gateway module designed to convert RS-232 serial protocol into TCP/IP network data and back again. Powered by an embedded WIZnet W5100 controller and an 8051-compatible MCU, it allows remote management and control of serial equipment over a local network. It is well suited for makers, students, and engineers networking serial devices and industrial hardware.

Reliable serial bridging

The module converts RS-232 data into TCP/IP format and seamlessly translates incoming network data back to serial. This enables remote gauging, managing, and control of connected equipment over Ethernet networks.

Embedded processing and memory

Driven by a hardwired WIZnet W5100 Ethernet controller and a fast 80C52-compatible GC89L591A0-MQ44I MCU, the board includes 62 KB Flash, 16 KB SRAM, and 2 KB EEPROM. It also features an embedded 10BaseT/100BaseTX PHY and provides password protection for secure operation.

Interfaces and power

Hardware connections include an RJ45 Ethernet jack, a standard DB9 serial connector supporting speeds up to 230 kbps, and a 5.5 x 2.1 mm center-positive barrel jack. The module operates from a 5V DC power source with a current consumption of under 180 mA.
