SparkFun Bluetooth Mate Silver Wireless Serial Modem

The SparkFun Bluetooth Mate Silver is a Class 2 wireless modem designed to act as a seamless serial RX/TX pipe. Configured to plug directly into Arduino Pro, Pro Mini, and LilyPad Mainboards, it provides an easy cable-free replacement for serial connections. It is well suited for learners, makers, and hobbyists developing short-range, battery-powered projects.

Direct Arduino compatibility

Arranged with the same pinout as an FTDI Basic board, the Bluetooth Mate connects directly to compatible Arduino Pro, Pro Mini, and LilyPad hardware. It passes serial data streams between 2400 and 115200 bps wirelessly from your computer to your microcontroller.

Low-power RN-42 module

Featuring an RN-42 module with v6.15 firmware, the unit consumes an average of 25 mA and drops to just 26 uA in sleep mode while remaining discoverable. Multiple user-configurable power modes allow you to tailor power draw to suit your portable application.

Power and signal conditioning

On-board voltage regulation supports power supplies from 3.3 V to 6 V DC, while integrated level shifting makes the RX and TX pins 3 V to 6 V DC tolerant. Connecting the module directly to a standard computer serial port requires an RS232 to TTL converter.

Robust wireless connection

The module includes a built-in antenna and employs a resilient frequency hopping scheme across 2.402 to 2.480 GHz to maintain encrypted connections in busy RF environments alongside Wi-Fi and Zigbee.
