The Hiwonder NexArm is an open-source, six-axis robotic arm platform designed specifically for embodied AI, Vision-Language-Action (VLA) learning, and ESP32 development. It is an ideal tool for researchers, educators, and advanced makers looking to explore imitation learning and edge deployment. Fully compatible with the Hugging Face LeRobot ecosystem, this robust platform provides a complete pipeline from data collection to policy deployment.
Embodied AI and VLA learning
Built with an industrial-grade, all-metal housing, the NexArm provides a stable hardware foundation for advanced robotics research. It covers the entire development pipeline from teleoperation teaching to edge deployment, supporting cutting-edge policies like ACT, Diffusion Policy, and Pi0.

Leader-follower imitation learning
The platform supports a dual-arm teleoperation system consisting of a leader arm and a follower arm. This setup features deep, underlying compatibility with the Hugging Face LeRobot framework for seamless data collection.

Optimised gear reduction ratios
To ensure precise demonstration capture, the leader arm utilises a 1:147 gear ratio for high-frequency tracking. Meanwhile, the follower arm employs a 1:345 reduction ratio to maximise positioning stability during execution.

Magnetic encoder bus servos
The joints are driven by a dual-output-shaft magnetic encoder servo system featuring durable all-metal gears. Real-time feedback algorithms and powerful magnetic motors ensure highly precise and stable movement.

Durable parallel-rail gripper
The end effector features silicone gripper pads and stainless-steel transmission components to ensure a secure hold on objects. This design improves wear resistance and overall grasping durability during repetitive tasks.

Intuitive offline drag teaching
Users can manually guide the leader arm offline to demonstrate tasks intuitively. Advanced imitation learning algorithms then allow the follower arm to accurately replicate these motion and grasping trajectories.
Wireless multi-device collaboration
The system supports unicast, multicast, and broadcast modes for remote collaboration across multiple devices. This enables developers to deploy automated scenarios and build responsive AIoT ecosystems.
Low-latency wireless control
A bundled PS3 wireless controller provides low-latency, one-to-one pairing for manual operation. Programming support also allows users to configure custom feedback actions directly on the NexArm.
