Description
The Waveshare RS232 to PoE Ethernet Serial Server is an industrial-grade IoT gateway designed for bi-directional transparent data transmission between RS232 serial hardware and Ethernet networks. It functions as a serial server, Modbus gateway, and MQTT gateway equipped with integrated power and signal isolation. It is ideally suited for students, makers, and engineers deploying remote telemetry, intelligent instrument monitoring, or automation projects.
Multifunction gateway capabilities
The device combines multiple functions in one unit, operating as a serial server, Modbus gateway, MQTT gateway, and RS232 to JSON converter. It supports TCP server, TCP client, UDP, and UDP multicast operating modes for adaptable network integration.
Flexible power and robust isolation
Power can be supplied via 6 to 36 V DC screw terminals or directly through the Ethernet cable via IEEE 802.3af PoE. Integrated power and signal isolation alongside 2 kV surge protection on the RJ45 port safeguard connected hardware.
Compact rail-mount design
The housing features a rail-mount case design measuring 87 x 36 x 59 mm for tidy and secure installation in equipment cabinets. It is rated to operate in humidity levels from 5% to 95% relative humidity.
Configuration and protocol support
Setup is handled via host utility, web browser, or device management libraries. Supported network protocols include TCP, UDP, ARP, ICMP, DHCP, DNS, and HTTP.
