SparkFun XBee 3 Wireless Kit

The SparkFun XBee 3 Wireless Kit is a comprehensive starter pack designed to make wireless serial communication simple and reliable. It provides everything required to link an Arduino directly to a computer or another device without physical serial cables. This kit is ideal for students, educators, and makers building wireless robotics, remote monitoring systems, or connected IoT projects.

Seamless serial communication

The kit acts as a direct wireless serial cable replacement, allowing users to pass data to and from an Arduino at speeds up to 115200bps. This setup makes it straightforward to capture remote sensor telemetry, update displays, or control robots from a keyboard.

Arduino shield integration and prototyping

The included XBee Shield matches the standard Arduino R3 footprint and features on-board 3.3VDC regulation from the 5V rail as well as level shifting on the DIN pin. An integrated SPDT switch routes DIN and DOUT lines between standard hardware UART pins and software serial digital pins, while a 12x11 grid of 0.1-inch spaced holes offers convenient prototyping space.

On-board indicators and hardware compatibility

Status LEDs provide visual feedback for power, RSSI, DIO5, DIN, and DOUT activity alongside an accessible reset button. The included hardware is configured specifically for 802.15.4 XBee modules and is not designed to supply the power required for Cellular XBee models.

What is included in the kit

The package includes two XBee 3 modules with PCB antennas, one XBee Explorer USB, one XBee Shield, and an Arduino R3 stackable header kit.
