SparkFun Digital Sandbox Learning Platform (DEV-12651)

The SparkFun Digital Sandbox is an all-in-one learning platform powered by an onboard microcontroller that connects the software and hardware worlds. Designed for beginners aged 8 and up, it allows learners to explore electronics and coding without any soldering. It can be programmed using the traditional Arduino environment or the beginner-friendly graphical ArduBlock interface.

Integrated onboard hardware

The board features a comprehensive range of built-in inputs and outputs, including a light sensor, temperature sensor, microphone, slide potentiometer, push button, slide switch, RGB LED, and an LED bar graph, as well as a 3-pin add-on header.

Visual and text-based coding

Learners can interface the board to a computer via the included USB cable to program using either the Arduino IDE or ArduBlock. ArduBlock provides a drag-and-drop graphical environment that simplifies programming concepts for young students and novices.

Step-by-step curriculum

The included full-colour instruction manual covers 13 guided circuit experiments, from basic LED blinking to sound detection and thermal monitoring. It provides wiring guidance, fully explained example code, and troubleshooting tips.
