Description
This compact RS-232 to RS-485 converter allows you to translate standard serial communication into balanced differential signals over extended distances. It is completely self-powered via the serial interface lines, making it an ideal choice for makers, students, and technicians working on long-range telemetry, industrial instrumentation, or robotics projects.
Passive self-powered operation
The module operates passively by harvesting parasitic power directly from the RS-232 TX, RX, RTS, or CTS signal lines. This eliminates the need for an external power supply or extra wiring in your setup.
Extended communication range
By converting standard RS-232 signals to RS-485 balanced differential transmission, the unit extends communication range up to 1200 m over twisted pair or shielded twisted pair cable. The RS-232 connection supports cable lengths up to 5 m.
Versatile connection options
The RS-232 input uses a standard DB9 female connector, while the output interface provides both a DB9 male connector and a 4-position terminal block for straightforward field wiring.
Reliable signal protection
The converter includes opto-isolation along with lightning and surge protection to safeguard connected hardware from electrical transients. It complies with CE, FCC, and RoHS standards.
Transmission speeds and compatibility
Supporting asynchronous half-duplex communication at baud rates from 300 bps up to 115.2 kbps, the converter follows EIA/TIA standards and is compatible with devices such as the URM04 ultrasonic sensor.
