NFC Tag (Round)

The NFC Tag (Round) is a compact 13.56MHz Mifare-One transponder designed for access control, automated tasks, and customer identification. Built around an NXP S50 chip, it requires no internal battery and is passively powered by nearby readers or NFC-enabled smartphones. It is an ideal, lightweight component for makers, educators, and hobbyists building interactive identification and IoT projects.

Passive NXP S50 architecture

The tag integrates an NXP S50 chip and antenna, drawing power directly from the electromagnetic field of a reader within a 0 to 5cm range. It operates at 13.56MHz under the standard ISO14443A communication protocol.

Rewritable 1KB EEPROM memory

Featuring 1KB of EEPROM organised into banks, the tag supports over 100,000 write cycles and has a data retention life of at least 10 years. It holds standard NDEF data formats for tasks like storing contacts, bookmarks, geolocation data, or automated Wi-Fi handovers.

Permanent unique identifier

Each unit has a factory-burned 4-byte unique ID that cannot be altered or overwritten. This fixed identifier provides reliable hardware authentication for electronic locks, keycards, and attendance systems.

Broad reader and smartphone compatibility

The tag is compatible with standard 13.56MHz RFID/NFC modules as well as NFC-enabled mobile devices. Compatible tools such as the NXP TagWriter application make formatting and payload configuration straightforward.

Durable and lightweight housing

Moulded from robust ABS and PVC plastic, the tag measures 3.2 x 2.8 x 2.5cm and weighs roughly 3g. Its compact form factor makes it easy to carry or integrate into portable maker projects.
