Description
The Gravity: UART Fiber Optic Transceiver Module provides high-speed serial communication over single-mode optical fibre at distances up to 10km and baud rates up to 2000000. Featuring complete electrical isolation and electromagnetic immunity, it is suited to makers, students, and engineers building robust long-distance telemetry systems or industrial links. The module connects directly to standard 3.3V to 5V microcontrollers using the Gravity interface.
Interface pinout and onboard indicators
The module features an SC optical fibre port and a standard Gravity UART interface that handles 3.3V to 5V supply and signal levels. Onboard LEDs provide immediate visual feedback for power (PWR), data transmission (TX), data reception (RX), and fibre disconnection detection (SD).
High-speed transmission up to 10km
Operating at a 1310nm wavelength over single-mode fibre, this module achieves communication rates of up to 2000000 baud across distances reaching 10km. It replaces thick shielded twisted-pair cabling while maintaining high transmission speeds and stability.
Complete electrical isolation and protection
Total optical isolation prevents electromagnetic interference from corrupting serial signals, enabling fibre cabling to share trunking alongside mains power lines. The module also incorporates lightning protection to safeguard connected microcontrollers in demanding environments.
Support for star network topologies
Beyond standard point-to-point links, the transceiver can be deployed with passive optical splitters to implement one-to-many star networking. This makes it practical for multi-node data acquisition systems and distributed sensor networks.
