Gravity: I2C to Dual UART Module

The Gravity: I2C to Dual UART Module converts a single I2C bus connection into two independent hardware serial ports. It is designed for makers, students, and engineers who need to expand the serial capacity of microcontrollers like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or micro:bit.

Dual independent hardware serial ports

Each expanded sub UART features an independent 256-byte FIFO hardware buffer for transmitting and receiving data. Baud rate, word length, and check format can be configured independently on each port.

Scalable multi-port expansion

You can connect up to four modules to a single development board to provide up to eight hardware serial ports. This solves serial pin limitations when standard microcontroller UARTs are reserved for programming or debugging.

High-speed data transfer

The module supports data transmission rates up to 1Mbps with a maximum communication rate of 2Mbps. This makes it suitable for timing-critical applications such as IR receivers and WS2818 RGB projects.

Sensor and peripheral compatibility

It interfaces directly with serial peripherals including IoT modules, GPS receivers, ultrasonic ranging sensors, and speech synthesis units.

Operating specifications

The board accepts an operating voltage range of 3.3V to 5.5V via a Gravity 4-pin I2C interface and operates between -40 deg C and 85 deg C. The board dimensions measure 32.5 by 27 mm.
