Gravity: Digital I2C Signal Isolator

The Gravity: Digital I2C Signal Isolator is designed to electrically isolate I2C communication and power lines between a microcontroller and a sensor module. It prevents electrical interference in sensitive multi-sensor setups, making it ideal for students, hobbyists, and makers building water quality monitoring and aquarium systems.

Mutual interference prevention

This module eliminates cross-talk between sensors operating in the same liquid container, such as concurrent pH and electrical conductivity probes. It also protects sensor readings from electrical noise induced by running water pumps.

Onboard isolated power chip

An onboard 5V 0.75W isolation power chip directly supplies the isolated sensor side with up to 150mA of current, removing the need for a secondary power supply. The non-isolated controller side operates at 5.0V with a typical no-load current of 15mA.

Plug-and-play Gravity connection

Featuring PH2.0-4P connectors, the board connects directly to compatible DFRobot I2C sensors without requiring soldering or modifications to existing microcontroller code. Interface signal levels operate at 3.3V high and 0V low.

Operating requirements and safety

All pins on the module side are completely isolated from the controller side and must not be short-circuited together. The board will normally generate some heat during standard operation.

Included cables and hardware

Measuring 42 by 32 mm, the board comes supplied with a double PH2.0-4P cable, a Gravity-4P I2C/UART sensor cable, and two XH2.54 4-pin headers for versatile wiring.
