SparkFun Electric Imp Shield for Arduino

The SparkFun Electric Imp Shield connects your Arduino board to the internet and Imp Cloud service via local Wi-Fi networks. It allows projects to communicate easily with web services and HTTP APIs without low-level networking configuration. This shield is ideal for makers, educators, and hobbyists building connected Internet of Things projects.

Serial communication and configuration

The shield links one of the Electric Imp UART interfaces on pins 5 and 7 to your Arduino. It routes to software serial on Arduino pins 8 and 9 by default, with bottom-side solder jumpers available to switch to the hardware UART.

Dedicated power supply and LEDs

Because the Electric Imp can draw up to 400mA at 3.3V, the shield incorporates its own onboard voltage regulator powered by the Arduino 5V rail. Status LEDs are connected to Imp pins 8 and 9 and can be isolated using bottom solder jumpers if required.

Requirements and compatibility

This product includes the shield board only and does not come with the Electric Imp card. It is designed for standard Arduino boards and compatible microcontrollers that have a robust 5V power supply.
