Description
The SparkFun Arduino Fio is an ATmega328V microcontroller board designed for wireless, battery-powered physical computing projects. Based on the LilyPad design and compatible with the Funnel toolkit, it allows makers and educators to easily connect sensors and actuators to environments like Processing, ActionScript 3, and Ruby. It is ideal for interactive designers and hobbyists developing compact wireless prototypes.
Wireless design and reprogramming
The board is equipped with an XBee socket located on the bottom for direct integration with wireless modules. It is designed to be wirelessly reprogrammable, sharing the ATmega328 TX and RX pins between the XBee socket and external FTDI serial connections.
Power and battery charging
Built for standalone and wearable applications, the Fio supports Lithium Polymer batteries and integrates an onboard MCP73831T LiPo charger. The miniUSB port provides dedicated charging input for the battery circuit.
Onboard controls and indicators
The board features an onboard on/off switch, a reset button, and status, charge, and RSSI LEDs for immediate visual feedback during operation.
