SparkFun ACS723 Current Sensor Breakout Board, 5A AC/DC

The SparkFun ACS723 Current Sensor Breakout is a high-accuracy module designed for moderate AC and DC current sensing up to 5A. Utilising an integrated Hall effect sensor, it provides electrical isolation between the measured circuit and the microcontroller. It is ideal for students, makers, and hobbyists building energy monitoring or motor control projects.

Hall effect current sensing

The onboard ACS723 sensor uses a Hall effect sensor to output an analog voltage proportional to the current flowing through the IP+ and IP- pins. Because it uses magnetic sensing, the circuit being measured is electrically isolated from the reading circuit, allowing a 5V development board to safely monitor higher-voltage DC or AC lines.

Measurement range and sensitivity

This breakout measures bidirectional currents up to 5A for both AC and DC circuits, featuring a base sensitivity of 400mV/A. Please note that while the ACS723 IC is rated for up to 2.4kV (RMS) isolation, the PCB itself is not designed for such high-voltage applications.

Adjustable output bandwidth

The board's bandwidth filter comes preset to 20kHz to reduce signal noise when operating at higher gains. If your application requires faster sampling, the full 80kHz bandwidth can be enabled by closing the JP1 Bandwidth Select jumper on the back of the PCB.
