Description

The Raspberry Pi 5 Expansion Board is a versatile motor and servo driver designed to offload processing tasks from your main board. Equipped with an onboard Cortex-M3 coprocessor, it is the ideal hardware foundation for South African educators, students, and makers building advanced ROS robotic arms, humanoid robots, and smart cars.

Dedicated coprocessor for secondary development

This expansion board integrates a Cortex-M3 32-bit high-performance Arm chip and utilises a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) algorithm for reliable communication. It is designed to drive servos, motors, and sensors, making it an excellent choice for developing articulated humanoid robots and smart cars.

High-performance Cortex-M3 ARM chip

By communicating via the MCU serial port, the onboard 32-bit ARM chip independently drives peripheral servos and motors. This design alleviates the workload of your Raspberry Pi 5, significantly boosting overall processing efficiency and robot response speeds.

Integrated six-axis IMU attitude sensor

Models B and C of this expansion board feature an onboard MPU6050 6-axis attitude sensor. This setup allows for straightforward initialization of IMU registers and provides raw 6-axis data, including a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope.

Quad motor drive with PID control

The board can drive up to four motors simultaneously while implementing precise PID speed control. This makes it compatible with diverse chassis configurations, including mecanum, omnidirectional, differential four-wheel, and Ackermann steering robot cars.

Dual PWM and bus servo support

Onboard ports support both PWM and serial bus servos, allowing you to build complex 6-degree-of-freedom robotic arms. Please note that Models A and B support both servo types, while Model C is dedicated exclusively to PWM servos.

Tailored model interface configurations

Choose the model that fits your project requirements. Model A focuses on motor driving with servo support, Model B offers dual PWM and bus servo compatibility, and Model C is specifically tailored for PWM-only configurations.
