Description
This 8x8 LED matrix display module is powered by the MAX7219 driver chip and designed to connect with Raspberry Pi B and B+ boards. It allows you to control 64 individual LEDs using serial commands over an efficient SPI interface. It is an ideal visual output solution for students, makers, and hobbyists learning display programming.
Efficient display control
The onboard MAX7219 constant current control chip manages all refresh and control tasks for the 64 LEDs. By communicating via a 4-pin SPI interface, it frees up Raspberry Pi IO pins compared to direct LED driving.
Simplified wiring and dimming
Wiring complexity is minimised because a single resistor sets the operating current level for all LEDs. In addition, the display supports digital dimming across the entire matrix.
Hardware design and compatibility
The unit is built around an 8x8 cathode matrix designed to connect with Raspberry Pi B and B+ models. The through-hole chip design also allows for use in standard breadboard and perfboard prototyping setups.
