Description
The IO Expansion HAT expands the interfacing capabilities of your Raspberry Pi by adding analogue inputs, PWM channels, and accessible digital pins. Equipped with an onboard STM32 coprocessor, it provides 12-bit ADC conversion and dedicated servo control in a compact form factor. It is ideal for students, makers, and educators building robotics, sensor arrays, or automation projects.
Onboard STM32 ADC and PWM
An onboard STM32F030 microcontroller provides an 8-channel, 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter alongside 4 dedicated PWM outputs. The MCU communicates directly with the Raspberry Pi over I2C at address 0x10, allowing simple analogue reads and servo control through standard libraries.
Flexible servo power supply
The HAT runs on 5V from the Raspberry Pi and outputs 3.3V logic for connected sensor modules. For high-draw loads such as multiple servo motors, the PWM rail can be powered by an external 6V to 12V supply or switched to the 5V Pi rail.
Comprehensive 22-port breakout
The board breaks out 22 total ports, including 10 digital I/O lines mapped directly to Raspberry Pi BCM GPIO16 through GPIO25. It also provides dedicated headers for SPI, UART, and dual I2C connections alongside the 4 analogue and 4 PWM channels.
Broad Raspberry Pi compatibility
Measuring 65 by 30 mm, this HAT matches the Zero footprint while remaining fully compatible with full-sized models including the Raspberry Pi 5, 4B, 3B+, and 2.
