Input Shield for Arduino

The Input Shield for Arduino is a stackable expansion board featuring a dual-axis joystick, multiple push buttons, and a wireless module interface. It transforms a standard development board into a physical handheld console for driving robots, navigating menus, or creating DIY games. It is well suited to students, educators, and hobbyists building interactive embedded prototypes.

Dual-axis joystick and digital buttons

The board integrates a dual-axis analogue mini joystick with a built-in press switch alongside four colour-coded push buttons. Potentiometers deliver reliable analogue signals for directional control, while auxiliary buttons and an onboard reset switch provide discrete digital inputs.

Stackable prototyping architecture

Designed to plug directly onto standard Arduino-compatible boards, the shield removes the need for messy breadboard wiring. Extended headers pass through unused I/O pins, allowing you to connect extra sensors, displays, and actuators to the hardware stack.

Wireless module expansion socket

A dedicated onboard interface accommodates APC220 Radio Data Modules, Bluetooth modules, or XBee devices. This wireless capability allows you to easily turn the assembly into a cable-free remote transmitter for mobile robotics and remote machinery.

Hardware mapping and dimensions

The joystick axes map to analogue pins A2 and A3 with its button on A0, while directional buttons assign to D8, D9, D12, and A1. The overall board measures 121.3 mm in length, 53.2 mm in width, and 40.8 mm in total height including the pin headers.
