Gravity: MCP23017 I2C 16 Digital IO Expansion Module

The Gravity: MCP23017 I2C 16 Digital IO Expansion Module allows microcontrollers to easily expand their digital pin capacity using a standard I2C connection. It is designed for students, makers, and educators building complex robotics, interactive installations, and multi-LED displays where microcontroller I/O ports are limited.

Expandable up to 128 digital ports

The module features an onboard dial switch to set I2C addresses from 0x20 to 0x27. This enables up to eight modules to operate on the same bus, providing up to 128 additional digital I/O lines.

Dual GPIO groups and configurable modes

The 16 pins are divided into two 8-pin banks, GPIOA and GPIOB. Each pin can be independently configured as an output, input, or input with a 100kΩ pull-up resistor.

Dedicated IA and IB interrupt pins

Two interrupt signal pins monitor input activity on the module. IA detects interrupts across GPIOA while IB monitors GPIOB, outputting a high-level signal when an interrupt occurs.

Wide voltage and prototyping support

With an operating voltage of 3.3V to 5.5V, the board works seamlessly with both 3.3V and 5V microcontroller platforms. Multiple VCC and GND pins are brought out on the board for convenient component wiring.
