Description
The DIY B/O Spider Robot is an educational mechanical kit featuring eight multi-jointed legs that reproduce the walking motion of a real spider. It is ideal for students, hobbyists, and young makers seeking an engaging, hands-on introduction to robotic science and mechanical assembly.
Realistic multi-jointed walking mechanism
The robot features eight multi-jointed legs engineered to duplicate the natural movement and stride of a spider. The mechanism is driven by a single 130RPM (11000 r/min) motor powered by an included 1.2V battery.
Adjustable gait and stride options
The kit includes two assembly configurations that allow users to adjust the robot's stride length and walking speed. This design lets learners directly observe how mechanical linkage adjustments alter robotic locomotion.
Electrical and physical specifications
Operating at a nominal 1.5V with a 180mA operating current, the robot is built for efficient low-power operation. The complete boxed kit measures 18 x 24 x 6 cm.
Complete structural parts list
Each kit ships with one gearbox, one power switch, two wiring terminals, a rubber tube, and four moulded plastic body frame parts. Due to small parts, this kit is not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
Expansion and customisation potential
Makers can expand the platform by adding an external microcontroller such as a Romeo BLE Mini, Sharp distance sensors, or an additional drive motor. These additions allow the spider to support wireless control or autonomous obstacle avoidance.
