Description
The Arduino Leonardo ETH with PoE is an ATmega32u4-based development board featuring an embedded Wiznet W5500 TCP/IP Ethernet controller and Power over Ethernet capability. It features native USB communication, allowing the board to act directly as a mouse, keyboard, or virtual COM port alongside its wired networking functions. It is well suited to students, makers, and educators building connected automation and IoT projects.
Network and storage connectivity
The board integrates an embedded W5500 TCP/IP Ethernet controller with an RJ45 magnetic jack, fully compatible with the standard Ethernet library. It also includes an onboard microSD card slot with active voltage translators for serving files and logging data over the network.
Microcontroller and native USB
Driven by an ATmega32u4 running at 16 MHz, the board handles USB communication directly without needing an external USB-to-serial converter. This enables hardware emulation of human interface devices such as keyboards and mice, alongside standard virtual serial port communication.
Power over Ethernet and supply options
Power can be supplied via micro USB, a 7 to 12V DC jack, or an IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE input rated for 36V to 57V. An onboard resettable polyfuse provides USB overcurrent protection by disconnecting the line if current exceeds 500 mA.
Input, output, and shield compatibility
The board offers 20 digital I/O pins, including 7 PWM channels and 12 analog inputs, following the standardised 1.0 pinout with dedicated TWI and IOREF pins. Note that pin 4 is reserved for SD card select, pin 10 for the W5500 controller, and SPI is routed exclusively through the ICSP header.
