Description
The Expandable 6x4 Off-Road UGV Mobile Robot Chassis is a robust, highly adaptable mobile platform designed for students, educators, and hobbyists building advanced robotics projects. Boasting a heavy-duty aluminium body and a 6-wheel, 4-wheel-drive configuration, it provides exceptional off-road performance and a stable base for computer vision and AI development. This open-source chassis supports popular single-board computers, including the Raspberry Pi and Jetson models, making it an ideal foundation for secondary development.
Heavy-duty aluminium alloy chassis
Built from 2mm thick 5052 aluminium alloy, this robust chassis supports a driving payload of up to 4kg. The 6-wheel, 4-wheel-drive configuration features flexible rubber tyres on nylon hubs to deliver excellent shock absorption and off-road capability.

Multi-host computer compatibility
The chassis is designed to accommodate various host computers, including the Raspberry Pi 4B, Raspberry Pi 5, Jetson Nano, and Jetson Orin Nano. The host computer communicates directly with the onboard ESP32 slave controller via a high-speed serial port.

Onboard ESP32 slave driver board
The integrated multi-functional driver board is based on an ESP32 chip with onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It handles low-level tasks such as driving serial bus servos, outputting PWM signals, and expanding storage via a TF card slot.

Uninterruptible power supply module
A built-in 3S UPS module supports three 18650 lithium-ion batteries (not included) to provide continuous, uninterruptible power. This system allows the robot to charge and output power simultaneously, ensuring up to 45 minutes of continuous full-power operation.

European standard profile rails
Equipped with two 1020 European standard profile rails, the upper surface offers 37,864 square millimetres of space for mounting sensors and hardware. This open-source design makes it easy to customise the platform for computer vision, robotic arms, or custom payloads.

Off-road mobility and obstacle crossing
With a maximum speed of 1.3 metres per second and a zero-metre turning radius for in-situ rotation, the rover is highly manoeuvrable. It can climb slopes up to 22 degrees and clear vertical obstacles of up to 40 millimetres.
