Description

The VLS-H5 is a compact 360-degree single-line scanning LiDAR engineered specifically for underwater robotic perception, localization, and obstacle avoidance. Operating up to 4 metres submerged with an IPX8 rating, it provides makers, students, and engineers with reliable distance sensing for autonomous pool cleaners and marine projects.

Operating at a 6Hz scanning frame rate, the unit uses single-photon direct time-of-flight ranging to acquire 360-degree spatial point clouds. This data combines with underwater SLAM algorithms to capture perimeter contours and support autonomous drift-free navigation.

High ambient sunlight tolerance

Equipped with combined hardware and optical software filtering, the sensor resists ambient light levels up to 160 kLux. This enables outdoor swimming pool robots to maintain clear point cloud acquisition even under strong, direct sunlight.

Turbidity compensation and ranging performance

The LiDAR measures up to 5 metres in clear water with less than 3 cm accuracy and a 1 mm distance resolution. In turbid conditions up to 4 NTU, onboard algorithmic compensation maintains an effective detection range of at least 1.5 metres.

Submersible IPX8 rugged enclosure

Measuring 52 mm by 75 mm by 53.1 mm, the compact housing withstands continuous submersion down to 4 metres. The exterior uses corrosion, scratch, and UV-resistant materials and includes a 350 mm cable fitted with an M14 4-pin waterproof connector.

Power and UART communication interface

The sensor runs on a DC 5.4V supply and outputs spatial data via standard UART communication. It features an angular resolution of 1 degree or better, Class 1 eye-safe red laser compliance, and an operating temperature range of 0 to 50 degrees Celsius.
