Velleman VM163 LED Display Panel Clock Module

The Velleman VM163 is a versatile LED panel clock module featuring a bright red digital readout and an accurate quartz time base. It includes an open collector alarm output and a daily programmable on/off timer, making it suitable for automotive, panel mounting, and custom hobbyist projects. The display can be deactivated to conserve power while an external backup battery maintains continuous timekeeping.

Display and timekeeping

The module features a bright red LED display with selectable 12-hour or 24-hour time readout formats driven by a quartz time base. It also includes an option to deactivate the screen, which is ideal for in-car or battery-powered installations.

Programmable output and alarm

It offers one daily program with set on-time and off-time intervals. An integrated open collector alarm output supports loads of up to 24V at 100mA for switching external circuits.

Power and battery backup

The clock operates from a 9V to 15V DC power source, drawing up to 60mA during normal operation and 8mA with the display blanked. An external 4.5V backup battery connection preserves timekeeping with a low maximum current draw of 200 µA.

Mounting and connections

Designed for clean panel integration, the module fits a 54 x 37 mm cut-out with a 42 mm mounting depth and a 67 x 40.5 mm faceplate. It includes easy-to-use board-to-wire connectors with 20 cm leads for straightforward wiring.
