URM14 - Industrial Ultrasonic Distance Sensor with 1mm Accuracy (10~150cm, RS485)

The DFRobot URM14 is an industrial-grade 200KHz ultrasonic distance sensor offering millimetre-level precision across a 10cm to 150cm range. Encased in a rugged IP65 metal housing with an RS485 Modbus-RTU interface, it is well suited for engineers, robotics hobbyists, and educators building automated systems, PLCs, or industrial computing setups.

Narrow beam and millimetre accuracy

Operating at a 200KHz acoustic frequency with a tight 12° measuring angle, the sensor delivers directional ranging similar to laser sensors. It achieves 1mm distance resolution and a ±0.3% error rate over its 100mm to 1500mm effective range.

Rugged IP65 metal enclosure

The sensor and processing electronics are encapsulated in a robust M18 threaded metal shell with an aviation connector plug. Rated at IP65 for dust and water resistance, the updated housing ensures tail cover stability and reliable operation from -20°C to +80°C.

Standard Modbus-RTU over RS485

Equipped with an RS485 interface, the sensor communicates using standard Modbus-RTU protocols for seamless integration with PLCs and industrial PCs. Built-in address instructions allow easy configuration across multi-device networks.

Adaptive noise and temperature compensation

An automatic noise detection feature monitors real-time environmental noise and dynamically adjusts operating parameters. The sensor also supports built-in or external temperature compensation with 0.1°C resolution to minimise measurement drift.

Versatile industrial automation applications

With a 30Hz measuring frequency and a wide 7V to 15V DC supply range, this sensor is ideal for non-contact obstacle avoidance, liquid level monitoring, and precise positioning tasks.

The kit includes one URM14 ultrasonic distance sensor along with two mounting nuts for easy installation into standard M18 brackets or panels.
