URM12 - Ultra Long Range Ultrasonic Distance Sensor (70~1500cm, RS485)

The URM12 is an industrial-grade ultrasonic distance sensor capable of long-range detection from 70cm to 1500cm. Built with an IP65-rated waterproof enclosure and standard RS485 communication, it is ideal for makers, engineers, and educators developing outdoor obstacle-avoidance robots, tank level monitoring systems, or industrial automation setups.

Extended 15-metre detection range

The sensor measures distances from 70cm up to 1500cm with a 1cm resolution and 1% accuracy. Built-in temperature compensation ensures reliable readings across its operating temperature range of -10°C to +70°C.

Focused 15-degree beam angle

A narrow 15° (±2° at -6dB) directional angle provides targeted measurements while minimising interference from side obstacles. This focused beam profile makes it particularly effective for level measurement and long-distance navigation.

Standard Modbus-RTU over RS485

Equipped with an RS485 interface, the sensor uses standard Modbus-RTU communication for robust, long-distance data transmission. It easily integrates with industrial PLCs, microcontrollers, and Arduino-based platforms.

Rugged IP65 industrial construction

With an IP65 ingress protection rating, the unit is sealed against dust and water ingress. This rugged housing allows reliable deployment in harsh outdoor environments, industrial washdown zones, and dusty storage facilities.

Flexible supply voltage and sampling

The sensor operates from a 9V to 24V DC power supply with a rated power draw of 4.8W. It delivers continuous real-time distance updates at a measuring frequency of up to 3Hz.
