Description

The UART Non-contact Optical Turbidity Sensor measures liquid clarity through transparent container walls using infrared optics. Designed for Arduino projects, corrosive liquids, and automated testing, it is ideal for students, hobbyists, and makers requiring corrosion-free water quality monitoring.

Non-contact optical detection

The sensor uses 950 nm infrared light transmittance and scattering to determine relative liquid turbidity without contacting the fluid. Mounting the probes outside the container eliminates wear and corrosion from water or aggressive chemicals.

Non-contact optical detection

UART digital serial output

Readings are transmitted via UART-TTL at 9600 bps, allowing direct communication with Arduino and compatible microcontrollers. The module delivers a rapid response time of under one second.

Container and mounting requirements

The two infrared probes must be mounted oppositely on a transparent cylindrical container with an outer diameter of 40 to 50 mm. Accurate measurements occur whenever the liquid level rises above the height of both probes.

Low-power solid-state design

Featuring polycarbonate probes and no mechanically moving parts, the sensor offers high reliability and a service life of up to 50,000 hours. It runs on a 5V DC supply and consumes less than 10 mA during operation.

Kit contents

The package includes one non-contact optical turbidity sensor unit and one Gravity 4-pin sensor adapter.
