Description

The TFmini Plus is an IP65-rated, single-point solid-state LiDAR rangefinder designed for short-to-medium distance detection up to 12 metres. Based on Time of Flight technology, it offers high frame rates and low power consumption in an ultra-compact footprint. It is ideal for hobbyists, students, and engineers developing robotics collision avoidance, drone altimeters, and outdoor sensing systems.

Measuring just 35 x 21 x 18.5 mm and weighing only 12 grams, the sensor packs high-performance ToF ranging into a finger-sized casing. Its lightweight ABS and PC construction allows it to fit neatly into tight drone frames and small robotic chassis.

High-speed ranging and precision

The sensor covers a detection distance from 0.1 m to 12 m with a reduced 10 cm blind zone and 5 mm resolution. It features a narrow 3.6-degree signal acceptance angle and an adjustable output frame rate ranging from 1 Hz to 1000 Hz.

Target dimensions and ranging accuracy

Reliable measurement requires a minimum target edge length of 6 cm at a 1 m distance, scaling to 72 cm at 12 m. Distance measurement delivers accuracy within plus or minus 5 cm up to 6 m, and plus or minus 1 percent from 6 m to 12 m.

Arduino and microcontroller integration

The unit supports both UART and I2C communication protocols at 3.3V LVTTL logic levels with a 5V power supply. It connects smoothly to Arduino development boards and custom flight controllers using standard libraries and configurable output settings.

Practical aerial and ground applications

The sensor is suited for UAV assisted takeoff, landing, and altitude holding, as well as pedestrian detection and vehicle collision avoidance. Multiple units can also monitor the same target area simultaneously without optical interference.

Rugged IP65 environmental protection

An IP65 enclosure provides effective dust and water resistance for demanding indoor and outdoor conditions. The unit has passed drone-level vibration testing, operates between -20 and 60 degrees Celsius, and resists ambient sunlight up to 70 klux.
