Description
The TF-NOVA is an ultra-compact line laser LiDAR sensor offering up to 14 metres of range across a 14-degree horizontal field of view. Operating over UART and I2C with update rates up to 900Hz, it is ideal for students, makers, and robotics developers needing reliable obstacle detection for autonomous rovers, drones, and smart automation projects.
Continuous line laser curtain
Unlike single-point distance sensors that leave wide blind spots, this sensor projects a 14-degree horizontal by 1-degree vertical beam. At a distance of 1 metre, it spans a 25cm by 1.7cm area to reliably detect thin obstacles like chair legs, wires, and pallet edges.

Robust outdoor PToF sensing
Built on Pulse Time-of-Flight technology, the sensor delivers accurate distance measurements up to 14 metres. It maintains stable performance even under direct sunlight up to 100Klux and across low-reflectivity surfaces.

Miniature and lightweight profile
Measuring only 26.5 by 21.05 by 12.0mm and weighing just 5 grams, the unit is smaller than an AA battery. This tiny form factor enables easy integration into space-constrained and payload-sensitive setups such as drones, robotic arms, and gimbals.

Simple microcontroller integration
The sensor features standard UART and I2C interfaces alongside a configurable I/O trigger mode that outputs high/low logic signals. This allows effortless plug-and-play connection to development boards like Arduino and Raspberry Pi while minimising CPU load.

High-speed sampling and eye safety
A configurable frame rate of up to 900Hz allows for real-time tracking of fast-moving targets in dynamic robotic applications. Its 905nm VCSEL emitter complies with EN60825 Class 1 eye-safety standards, making it safe for classrooms, maker spaces, and public deployments.
