SyRen Single 10A DC Motor Driver

The SyRen Single 10A DC Motor Driver is a versatile, high-efficiency controller designed for medium-powered robotics, electric vehicles, and automation projects. It supplies up to 10A continuous power to a single brushed DC motor and is suitable for combat robots up to 30 lbs or general-purpose robots up to 100 lbs.

Power and current handling

The driver supplies up to 10A continuous and 15A peak current at up to 18V, and 8A continuous at 24V (expandable to 10A continuous with extra airflow or heatsinking). Built-in overcurrent and thermal protection prevent damage from motor stalls or excessive loads.

Synchronous regenerative drive

A synchronous regenerative topology recharges your battery whenever the motor slows down or reverses. This setup provides fast, responsive braking and direction changes to keep mobile platforms agile.

Flexible control modes

The board accepts analog voltage, radio control (R/C), simplified serial, and packetized serial inputs. Operating modes are set via onboard DIP switches, and two SyRen units can operate in tandem using built-in mixing for differential drive systems.

Ultrasonic switching and BEC output

Transistors switch at an ultrasonic 32kHz frequency to eliminate audible motor whine entirely. An integrated 5V battery eliminator circuit (BEC) provides power directly to a microcontroller or R/C receiver.

Hardware design and battery safety

Screw terminal connectors enable easy wiring without soldering. A dedicated lithium cutoff mode ensures safe use with high-density lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery packs.

Power supply requirements

Because of the regenerative drive architecture, this controller should be powered with a battery or a DC power supply wired in parallel with a battery. Standalone low-cost AC adapters are not recommended.
