Description

The SRF02 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor is a compact, single-transducer ranging module designed for non-contact distance measurement between 16cm and 6m. Featuring dual I2C and TTL serial connectivity, it offers straightforward integration for students, makers, and robotics developers. Built-in timing and automatic calibration algorithms ensure reliable echo detection with minimal processing load on the host microcontroller.

Single-transducer ultrasonic ranging

Operating with a 40kHz transducer, the module measures distances from 16cm up to 600cm. On-board processing handles complete echo timing internally, reporting range data directly in microseconds, centimetres, millimetres, or inches to reduce host processor overhead.

Automatic tuning and gain control

Integrated AutoTune algorithms automatically optimise the detection range without requiring manual calibration. A 64-step analogue gain control continually adjusts signal reception to maintain consistent measurement stability across diverse reflective surfaces.

Flexible I2C and TTL communication

The sensor features selectable I2C and TTL serial communication operating at 9600 baud with 1 start bit, 2 stop bits, and no parity. Up to 16 modules can share the same communication bus, making it well suited for distributed multi-sensor arrays.

Independent burst and echo commands

Configurable command options allow independent triggering of ultrasonic transmission and reception cycles. This capability supports synchronised multi-sensor systems, custom ranging workflows, and experimental acoustic sensing.

Compact and low-power design

Weighing 4.6g and measuring 24mm x 20mm x 17mm, the unit operates on a standard 5V supply with a typical current draw of just 4mA. The package includes one SRF02 ultrasonic distance sensor module ready for integration.
