Description

The RS485 Wind Vane Direction Sensor is a precision meteorological instrument engineered to monitor 16 natural wind directions across a full 360-degree range. Built with a rugged die-cast aluminium alloy shell and Hall-effect sensing, it is ideal for environmental monitoring, smart agriculture, and outdoor maker projects.

Hall-effect direction sensing

The sensor uses a low-inertia tail wing connected to an internal shaft magnet and Hall sensor to register horizontal wind direction. With a start-up wind speed threshold of 0.3 m/s, it delivers high sensitivity and fast response times across 16 distinct compass directions.

Rugged aluminium alloy construction

Precision die-cast from aluminium alloy, the housing and vane are built to resist strong winds, water ingress, and corrosion in harsh outdoor environments. The internal circuitry is fully protected and terminates in a corrosion-resistant military-style connector.

Microcontroller wiring and RS485 interface

The unit communicates using the standard RS485 Modbus protocol over a 7V to 24V DC operating voltage range. It connects reliably to development boards such as an Arduino Uno via an RS485-to-UART signal adapter module.

Physical footprint and dimensions

Compact mechanical dimensions make the wind vane straightforward to position and mount onto meteorological masts, towers, or portable sensor rigs. A 2.5-metre lead is included to provide flexible routing to your main control enclosure.
