Description

The RS485 MODBUS-RTU Soil Temperature and Moisture Sensor provides reliable, real-time ground condition monitoring for automated irrigation and greenhouse systems. Built with an IP68-rated waterproof body and 316 stainless steel probes, it is designed for long-term underground deployment. It is ideal for makers, agricultural researchers, and students building automated climate and irrigation controllers.

Arduino and RS485 MODBUS integration

The sensor communicates via standard MODBUS-RTU over an RS485 interface and supports a wide DC input voltage range of 5V to 30V. It interfaces cleanly with microcontrollers such as the Arduino Uno via a TTL-to-RS485 adapter board for rapid project development.

Durable 316 stainless steel probe

The probe is constructed from 316 stainless steel and vacuum-sealed in flame-retardant black epoxy resin. This design delivers IP68 water ingress protection and high resistance to rust, electrolysis, and salt-alkali soil conditions.

Soil health and installation

Tracking ground temperature and water levels ensures roots absorb nutrients efficiently while preventing problems caused by dehydration or oxygen-deprived waterlogging. The unit measures 123 x 45 x 15 mm and includes an integrated 2-metre cable for convenient burial.

High precision measurement specifications

It measures moisture from 0% to 100% with a resolution of 0.1% and accuracy of up to plus-or-minus 2%. Temperature measurement covers -40°C to +80°C with 0.1°C resolution and plus-or-minus 0.5°C accuracy.
