Description
The RPLiDAR S2 is a compact 360-degree Direct Time-of-Flight laser range scanner designed for precise indoor and outdoor mapping. Featuring an IP65-rated enclosure and resistance to strong sunlight, it is ideal for makers, robotics students, and commercial AGV developers requiring dependable autonomous navigation.
Direct Time-of-Flight ranging method
Powered by SLAMTEC Direct Time-of-Flight technology, the scanner maintains consistent ranging resolution across long distances. It reliably detects difficult surfaces and diverse materials, including dark targets, high-reflectivity mirrors, and transparent glass.

Extended 30-metre measurement radius
With a scanning range reaching up to 30 metres for white objects and 10 metres for black objects, the sensor easily covers expansive indoor and outdoor areas. This range suits demanding spatial awareness and navigation tasks in warehouses, shopping malls, and office buildings.

High-speed 32 kHz sampling rate
An upgraded optical design and measurement system achieves a sample rate of up to 32,000 points per second. Paired with a 10 Hz scanning frequency and 0.12-degree angular resolution, it captures dense environmental detail during rapid movement.

Strong ambient light resistance
The sensor operates reliably under severe optical interference, tolerating ambient lighting up to 80,000 lux. This allows autonomous mobile robots and unmanned vehicles to transition smoothly between indoor lighting and direct outdoor sunlight.

Compact low-profile form factor
Measuring 77 by 77 by 38.5 mm with a scanning optical area height of only 18 mm, the unit is easily embedded within compact robot chassis. It weighs just 190 grams and conforms to IEC-60825 Class 1 laser safety standards.

Drop-in interface compatibility
The S2 shares the standard interface port used by A-series RPLiDAR units, enabling seamless hardware upgrades for existing platforms without redesigning systems. It operates on a 5V power supply and supports TTL UART communication at 1 Mbps.

IP65 environmental protection
An IP65-rated enclosure shields the internal rotating mechanisms from dust and moisture ingress, ensuring durability in harsh operating conditions. It maintains steady performance across an operating temperature range of -10°C to 50°C.
