Description
The RPLIDAR A2M12 is a 360-degree 2D mechanical laser range scanner designed for autonomous mapping, localisation, and obstacle avoidance. Featuring a 0.2 m to 12 m measurement range and a compact 4 cm profile, it is an ideal sensor for robotics students, educators, and service robot developers.
360-degree omnidirectional range scanning
The core sensor rotates clockwise to perform full 360-degree scans of its surrounding environment. This enables autonomous robots to build real-time outline maps for SLAM, navigation, and obstacle avoidance.

Compact 4 cm ultra-thin profile
Carefully engineered internal mechanics and custom components reduce the overall sensor height to just 4 cm. This low-profile form factor makes it easy to integrate into slim robotic platforms and space-constrained enclosures.

High-speed triangulation range engine
Utilising laser triangulation ranging and a high-speed RPVision engine, the sensor rapidly measures distance data for fast and accurate environmental mapping. The high sampling capability ensures responsive path finding and obstacle detection.

Quiet brushless motor drive
A self-designed brushless motor replaces traditional belt drive systems to eliminate mechanical running friction. This non-contact design delivers smooth, low-noise continuous rotation during operation.

Optimised 12-metre detection range
Advanced ranging algorithms support reliable distance scanning from 0.2 m up to 12 m. The wide scan radius supplies dense environmental outline data suitable for both navigation and large-screen multi-touch interaction.

OPTMAG wireless transmission technology
Integrated optical communication and wireless power transfer replace traditional physical slip rings. By eliminating mechanical wear and electrical connection failure, the scanner achieves a continuous operating lifespan of up to five years.

Class 1 laser safety standard
A low-power modulated infrared pulse laser acts as the light source, emitting very short light pulses during scans. This ensures complete safety for humans and pets in accordance with Class 1 laser standards.
