Description
The OpenMV Cam H7 Plus is a compact, low-power microcontroller board designed for running machine vision and embedded machine learning applications in real-world environments. Programmed in high-level MicroPython, it is ideal for students, makers, and robotics engineers who need powerful computer vision without complex low-level code.
High-performance Cortex-M7 core and memory
The module is driven by an STM32H743II ARM Cortex-M7 processor running at 480 MHz with 32 MB of SDRAM, 1 MB of SRAM, and 32 MB of external flash. This extensive memory headroom enables smooth execution of demanding vision algorithms, large frame buffers, and neural network weights.
MicroPython programming with hardware control
Users program the camera using high-level Python scripts through the MicroPython operating system, making it easy to process complex algorithm outputs. It provides full control over onboard pins, allowing scripts to execute vision algorithms and toggle hardware lines based on visual triggers.
Embedded AI and advanced tracking
With support for TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers, the board runs custom image classification, segmentation, and built-in person detection models. It also handles Haar-cascade face detection, pupil gaze tracking, multi-blob colour tracking, and frame differencing for motion detection.
Barcode decoding and geometric detection
The camera reads QR codes, Data Matrix codes, and a wide variety of 1D linear barcodes, while tracking AprilTag fiducial markers at up to 12 FPS. Integrated vision tools also include optical flow for movement tracking, template matching, and detection of lines, circles, and rectangles.
Multi-bus RPC communication library
A built-in Remote Procedure Call library enables communication with host PCs, single-board computers, and microcontrollers across UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, and USB VCP. OpenMV also provides dedicated Python and Arduino interface libraries to simplify integration into external hardware setups.
Versatile hardware and illumination
The board features 10 five-volt tolerant I/O pins with PWM and interrupt capabilities, dedicated servo outputs, 12-bit ADC and DAC lines, and a micro SD slot capable of 100 Mb/s transfers. Night-time and status illumination is supported by an onboard RGB LED and two high-power 850 nm infrared LEDs.
