Description

The MP2636 Power Booster & Charger Module is an all-in-one power management board designed for single-cell lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries. It combines charging and 5V step-up boost conversion into a single compact footprint, functioning just like an integrated power bank. It suits makers, students, and hobbyists looking to build reliable portable electronics and robotics projects.

Integrated charge and boost management

Built around the Monolithic Power Systems MP2636 IC, this board combines a switch-mode battery charger with system power path management. It eliminates the need for separate charging and boost boards in single-cell 3.7V lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery systems.

Automatic power path switching

When connected to an external 4.5V to 6.0V source via the VIN pin, the module automatically charges the battery and illuminates the onboard CHG LED indicator. When external power is disconnected, the onboard 5V boost circuit engages automatically to power the load from the battery.

High-efficiency 2.5A current delivery

The module supports up to 2.5A maximum charging current and delivers up to 2.5A maximum output current at 5V. Operating at a 600KHz switching frequency, it delivers greater than 90% efficiency across both charging and boost modes.

Integrated thermal and overcharge protection

Hardware safety features include built-in overcharge protection for 4.2V fully charged single-cell batteries. The board also incorporates an automatic thermal shutdown mechanism that safely cuts power if temperatures exceed 150 degrees Celsius.

Compact and lightweight design

With dimensions of 35 by 30 millimetres and a total weight of 12 grams, the module integrates easily into tight project enclosures. The package includes one MP2636 Power Booster & Charger Module ready for integration.
