Description

This industrial-grade soil sensor simultaneously monitors electrical conductivity (EC) and pH levels via standard MODBUS-RTU over RS485. Encased in an IP68 waterproof resin housing with 316 stainless steel probes, it operates on a wide 5V to 30V DC supply. It is ideal for makers, agricultural researchers, and students building automated hydroponics, greenhouse controllers, or smart irrigation systems.

Arduino integration via MODBUS-RTU

The sensor communicates over an RS485 bus using the MODBUS-RTU protocol, drawing just 0.5W at 24V. This enables simple multi-sensor bus wiring and direct interfacing with Arduino Uno microcontrollers for automated data logging.

Durable 316 stainless steel probe

Constructed with 316 stainless steel electrodes and vacuum-sealed in flame-retardant epoxy resin, the unit achieves an IP68 rating. It resists rust, electrolysis, and salt-alkali corrosion, allowing long-term continuous burial in diverse soil types or water.

Accurate EC and pH measurement

The sensor measures EC across 0 to 20000 us/cm with automatic temperature compensation from 0°C to 50°C to maintain stability. It also monitors soil pH across a 3 to 9 pH range with 0.1 pH resolution to determine acidity and alkalinity levels.

Rated for operating temperatures between -20°C and +60°C, the sensor includes a 2-metre cable for flexible field deployment. Key applications include greenhouse floriculture, drip irrigation systems, hydroponics management, and scientific soil testing.
