Description
The MAX98357 I2S Amplifier Module is a compact Class D audio breakout designed to deliver clean digital sound directly from microcontrollers like the ESP32. It provides an efficient, low-noise audio solution for makers, students, and hobbyists building embedded voice interfaces and smart devices.
High-efficiency Class D output
Powered by the MAX98357A chipset, the module delivers up to 2.5W into a 4Ω speaker or 1.8W into an 8Ω speaker at 5V. It operates reliably across a 3.3V to 5V DC supply range with up to 92% power efficiency.
Compact design with flexible mounting
Measuring only 18mm by 18mm, the board incorporates castellated stamp holes suitable for surface-mount assembly, breadboards, and standard pin headers. Speakers can be attached quickly using the onboard PH2.0 socket or soldered directly to the peripheral pads.

Direct digital I2S communication
The module interfaces over standard I2S bus lines, supporting sample rates ranging from 8kHz to 96kHz. This eliminates the need for external DACs when generating audio from modern microcontrollers and development boards.
Configurable channel modes and gain
By setting the resistance on the SD pin, you can configure the output to left channel, right channel, mixed mono, or shutdown, with mixed mode set as the default. The board also provides five selectable gain settings between 3dB and 15dB.
Wide operating range for projects
With an operating temperature rating from -40°C to +80°C, this amplifier is suited for IoT alert nodes, Bluetooth speakers, interactive smart home devices, and robotic voice systems.
