LV-MaxSonar-EZ4 MB1040 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor

The LV-MaxSonar-EZ4 MB1040 is a compact ultrasonic distance sensor engineered with the narrowest beam width in the MaxSonar-EZ family. Ideal for makers, robotics students, and educators, it reliably detects large target objects while ignoring clutter and side obstacles.

Narrow beam large target sensing

Featuring the narrowest beam pattern in the LV-MaxSonar-EZ line, this sensor is the least sensitive to side objects. This targeted profile makes it an excellent choice for navigating spaces where only primary, large obstacles should be detected.

Accurate 254-inch ranging

The sensor operates at a 42kHz frequency and delivers 1-inch resolution with a 20Hz reading rate. It measures distances from 6 inches up to 254 inches (645 cm), with objects closer than 6 inches reading as 6 inches to eliminate dead zones.

Flexible triple-output interface

Users can easily integrate the sensor into microcontrollers and robotic controllers using any of its three simultaneous output modes. It supports analogue voltage, pulse-width modulation, and RS232 serial data formats.

Compact and low-power hardware

Occupying less than one cubic inch, the lightweight board includes integrated mounting holes for quick mechanical installation. It operates efficiently across a 2.5V to 5.5V supply with a low average current draw of 2.0mA.

Automatic ringdown calibration

Upon receiving the command to begin ranging, the sensor automatically learns the local ringdown pattern. This environmental learning routine helps the unit ignore static background obstacles present at power-up.
