Laser Ranging Sensor UART (4-400cm)

The Laser Ranging Sensor UART (4-400cm) is a robust, compact distance-measuring module designed for accurate proximity sensing and obstacle detection. Providing a sensing range of 4 cm to 400 cm with a reliable UART interface, it is well suited for robotics enthusiasts, makers, and engineers developing smart vehicles, security gates, or automated access systems.

Accurate non-contact laser ranging

The sensor delivers non-contact distance measurement across 4 to 400 cm with an accuracy of plus or minus 2 cm using an invisible laser. It supports three distinct measurement modes, an emitting angle of 39.6 degrees, and a receiving angle of 36.5 degrees. Please note that measurement data can be unstable when detecting black objects.

Rugged IP67 metal housing

Built with a threaded barrel black metal shell, the sensor is both waterproof with an IP67 rating and shockproof for demanding environments. The integrated optical cover filters ambient optical interference while maintaining a compact form factor of 21.5 x 21 x 8 mm.

UART interface and programmable alarm

Communication is handled over UART with a default frequency of 20Hz and configurable baud rates ranging from 2400 to 921600 (default 115200). A dedicated alarm output line pulls steadily low whenever a detected target comes closer than the user-configured distance threshold.

Wide supply voltage and low power

An onboard voltage regulator allows the module to operate safely from a wide 6V to 36V DC supply. It draws under 38mA of current during operation and performs reliably across an operating temperature range of -20 to 70 degrees Celsius.
