ITEAD SSD1963 LCD Display Controller Chip with 1215KB Frame Buffer

The ITEAD SSD1963 is a dedicated graphics LCD controller IC featuring an integrated 1215 KB frame buffer supporting displays up to 864 x 480 at 24-bit colour depth. It enables microcontrollers to interface with generic RGB TFT panels using flexible parallel bus modes and hardware-accelerated rendering features. This chip is well-suited for makers, hobbyists, and embedded developers building custom high-resolution graphical interfaces.

High-resolution display processing

Equipped with a 1215 KB internal frame buffer, the controller drives generic 18-bit and 24-bit RGB panels as well as 8-bit serial RGB screens. It provides hardware support for 0, 90, 180, and 270-degree rotation, display mirroring, and windowing.

Microcontroller interfacing

The SSD1963 communicates with host microcontrollers over selectable 8, 9, 16, 18, or 24-bit parallel bus widths to receive graphics commands and data. It includes a dedicated tearing effect signal to help synchronise screen redraws.

Control and power features

The IC features programmable brightness, contrast, and saturation controls alongside Dynamic Backlight Control via PWM. It also integrates four GPIO pins, an internal clock generator, and a deep sleep power-saving mode.
