Intelligent Rain Detection Module

The Intelligent Rain Detection Module is an ultra-compact optical sensor designed to detect rainfall on glass surfaces in real time. It categorises precipitation levels from light to heavy while filtering out interference from sunlight, dust, and leaves. This sensor is ideal for makers and engineers developing automated wiper systems, smart agriculture monitoring, and weather-aware enclosures.

Ultra-compact circular form factor

Measuring approximately 12.5 mm in diameter, this sensor easily embeds into space-constrained housings such as speed dome and box cameras. Its miniature footprint allows clean integration into custom enclosures and optical surfaces without obstructing views.

Optical filtering for precise rainfall tracking

A built-in optical algorithm distinguishes genuine rainfall from ambient factors such as sunlight, dust, and leaves. The module feeds back real-time status across four distinct states: no rain, light rain, moderate rain, and heavy rain.

Integrated ambient light and temperature sensing

Alongside precipitation tracking, the module features built-in ambient light detection and internal device temperature monitoring. It also supports rainfall detection sensitivity adjustments to adapt to different climate conditions.

Energy-efficient low power mode

The module includes a low power operating mode that significantly reduces current consumption during continuous monitoring. This lower power draw helps extend overall service life in standalone or solar-powered deployments.

Automated wiper and environmental control

By detecting moisture directly on windshield glass, the sensor can trigger camera host wipers to maintain a clear view in wet conditions. It is well suited for smart doors and windows, security monitoring, and automated agricultural infrastructure.

UART interface and wiring specifications

Operating at 3.3V with a current draw under 50mA, the module communicates over UART at 115200 bps across a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. It ships with an adapter cable configured with black for VCC, white for UART RX, yellow for UART TX, and red for GND.
