Incremental Photoelectric Rotary Encoder - 400P/R

This 400 P/R incremental photoelectric rotary encoder provides accurate measurement of rotational speed, angle, and angular velocity. Built with a rugged metal housing and stainless steel shaft, it is ideal for makers, students, and engineers developing motion control and robotics projects with Arduino or other microcontrollers.

Two-phase orthogonal pulse output

The encoder utilizes an internal grating disk and optocoupler to produce AB two-phase orthogonal pulse signals. It generates 400 pulses per revolution per phase, achieving up to 1600 pulses per revolution with dual-phase 4x decoding.

Durable metal construction

Featuring an aluminium body, a protective metal shell, and a stainless steel shaft, the unit supports speeds up to 5000 r/min. The 234 g industrial build provides reliable stability during high-speed rotation.

NPN open collector interface

The NPN open collector output connects directly to microcontrollers that have internal pull-up resistors enabled. External pull-up resistors are required when taking signal readings on an oscilloscope.

Physical dimensions and power

Operating at a standard 5V supply voltage, the encoder body measures 39 mm in diameter by 36.5 mm long with a 6 mm by 13 mm shaft. Mounting is supported via M3 screw holes and a 20 mm by 4.85 mm outside shaft platform.

Included mounting hardware

Each unit comes with a dedicated encoder mounting bracket, a 6 mm shaft coupling, screw accessories, and two 10K pull-up resistors for straightforward installation.
