Description
The HCR Mobile Robot Platform is a three-tier, two-wheel-drive mobile robotics base equipped with integrated encoders, a Romeo V1 controller, and multi-directional sensors. Built with a rigid aluminium frame and a 10 kg payload capacity, it provides a stable foundation for university research, robotics education, and autonomous navigation prototyping.
Rigid three-tier aluminium chassis
Constructed from orange-coated aluminium, the modular 33 x 33 x 65 cm frame provides three configurable levels to accommodate electronics, batteries, and compute hardware. The sturdy chassis supports payloads up to 10 kg, making it suitable for expanded sensor arrays and advanced robotics builds.
Encoder-equipped drive system
The differential drive system features customized 12V low-noise 146 RPM DC motors with integrated encoder feedback. Paired with 13 cm drive wheels and a rear omni-directional caster wheel, it delivers smooth manoeuvring and precise wheel speed monitoring for PID control and odometry.
Multi-directional sensing suite
The platform comes supplied with five Sharp GP2Y0A21 infrared distance sensors (10 to 80 cm range) and three collision sensors for robust obstacle detection. Its architecture can also be expanded to house up to six ultrasonic sensors for comprehensive directional monitoring.
Romeo controller and compute mounting
Included with the kit is a Romeo V1 robotic controller to manage onboard motor driving and sensor interfacing right out of the box. The chassis also features integrated mounting positions for larger computing boards, including mini-ITX platforms and vision accessories like Microsoft Kinect.
