Description

The Gravity PPG Heart Rate Monitor Sensor is a compact, thumb-sized pulse detector designed for Arduino and other popular microcontrollers. It offers students, hobbyists, and makers an accessible way to integrate cardiac pulse tracking into health and IoT projects.

The sensor uses photoplethysmography (PPG), an optical technique that detects changes in blood volume within microvascular tissue. This approach makes it straightforward to monitor the pulsatile component of the cardiac cycle.

Microcontroller and Gravity interface

Equipped with a standard Gravity PH2.0-3P connector, the module connects easily via IO sensor shields. Operating across an input voltage of 3.3V to 6V (5V recommended), it is compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel Edison, Joule, and Curie.

Versatile wearable mounting

Two mounting slots on the board allow it to be fastened using the included wrist strap. The sensor can be worn against the skin on a finger, wrist, earlobe, or other contact areas.

Dual analog and digital outputs

The board outputs both analog (0 to Vin) and digital (0 or Vin) signals for flexible data acquisition. This enables both continuous pulse wave analysis and straightforward heartbeat counting in applications like Blynk IoT monitoring.

Stationary use and medical disclaimer

This module is designed to collect data while the user remains stationary, as motion will cause inaccurate readings. It is strictly for hobbyist and educational use and must not be used to diagnose or treat medical conditions.

The compact 28 x 24 mm module comes ready for prototyping. The package includes one heart rate monitor sensor board, one wrist belt, and one PH2.0-3P cable.
