Gravity: MQ5 LPG Gas Sensor – Natural Gas & Propane Detector (200–10,000 ppm)

The Gravity MQ5 Gas Sensor is an analog detector designed for real-time monitoring of LPG, propane, and natural gas leaks. Featuring a plug-and-play Gravity interface and adjustable sensitivity, it is ideal for makers, students, and educators building domestic safety alarms and environmental monitoring projects.

Flammable gas detection range

Built around an MQ5 semiconductor probe, the sensor detects LPG and propane from 200 to 10,000 ppm and natural gas from 300 to 10,000 ppm. It provides high sensitivity to combustible gases while minimising false triggers from smoke and alcohol.

Analog voltage output

The module outputs a continuous 0 to 5V analog signal proportional to gas concentration. This allows straightforward integration with Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi microcontrollers for real-time safety monitoring.

Onboard sensitivity adjustment

An integrated potentiometer allows you to calibrate and fine-tune trigger thresholds directly on the board. The 3-pin Gravity interface enables quick solderless connection to microcontrollers and sensor shields.

Fast response and operating range

The sensor responds to the presence of gas in under 10 seconds for timely alerting. Its tin dioxide probe operates reliably across operating temperatures from -10°C to 50°C.

Electrical and physical specifications

Operating at 5V DC with a maximum current draw of 150mA, the compact module measures 40 x 20 mm. The pinout follows standard 3-pin Gravity configuration consisting of Output, VCC, and GND.
