Gravity: ENS160 Air Quality Sensor

The Gravity: ENS160 Air Quality Sensor is a compact indoor air quality monitoring module powered by ScioSense's ENS160 sensor chip. It measures multiple environmental indicators including TVOC, eCO2, and AQI, outputting direct data via an I2C interface. This sensor is ideal for students, makers, and engineers building automated ventilation systems, home air monitors, and smart appliances.

Board layout and hardware

The compact 30x22 mm board integrates the ENS160 chip and a standard Gravity connector. It operates on a supply voltage of 3.3 V to 5.5 V with an operating current of 29 mA.

Connection and wiring

Communication is handled via I2C with selectable addresses of 0x52 and 0x53. An included Gravity-4P I2C/UART cable allows straightforward connection to compatible microcontrollers.

Multi-parameter indoor air detection

Using TrueVOC and metal oxide (MOX) technology, the sensor delivers accurate readings for TVOC from 0 ppb to 65000 ppb and eCO2 from 400 ppm to 65000 ppm. Built-in algorithms compute and output clean air quality metrics directly.

Fast warm-up and baseline correction

The sensor achieves operational accuracy after a warm-up time of under 3 minutes. An automatic baseline correction algorithm maintains long-term measurement stability and anti-interference performance.

Target applications

Operating across -40 deg C to 85 deg C and 5 %RH to 95 %RH, this module is well suited for HVAC systems, smart thermostats, air purifiers, range hoods, and indoor pollution monitoring.
