Description
The Gravity Digital Adjustable Infrared Proximity Sensor is a compact, cost-effective distance detection module for Arduino projects. Designed for makers, students, and hobbyists, it provides reliable digital object detection across an adjustable range of 10 to 80 cm. Its simple integration makes it ideal for indoor obstacle avoidance robots and interactive automation.
Adjustable infrared detection range
The sensor features a multi-turn adjustment screw on the back to calibrate detection thresholds between 10 cm and 80 cm. Depending on the target surface, working distances range from a minimum of 3 cm against non-reflective black targets to 90 cm against flat reflective white planes. It is optimised for indoor environments away from direct sunlight.
Threaded barrel for easy mounting
The round cylindrical body measures 45 x 18 x 18 mm and includes screwable retaining nuts for secure chassis installation. It fits neatly into a matching panel or chassis cutout, allowing you to easily aim and fix the sensor at different angles on a custom robot.
Gravity interface and digital output
Built with the standard Gravity plug-and-play interface, the sensor connects directly to Arduino microcontrollers and IO expansion shields. It provides a simple digital read on the signal line when an object enters the calibrated threshold.
Versatile project applications
This sensor suits wall-following mobile robots, obstacle detection, industrial assembly line triggers, and interactive media installations. It can also serve as a non-contact user presence detector for turning screens or peripherals on and off.
Operating power and wiring
Operating at 5V DC with a 100mA current draw, the sensor integrates seamlessly with standard 5V logic controllers. The connection cable features colour-coded leads with brown for +5V power, blue for ground, and black for the digital signal.
