Gravity: Analog Sound Level Meter

The Gravity: Analog Sound Level Meter is an Arduino-compatible decibel sensor designed to measure environmental noise levels between 30 dBA and 130 dBA. Built with an instrument circuit and a low-noise microphone, it offers a straightforward plug-and-play solution for students, hobbyists, and makers building environmental noise monitors.

Accurate acoustic measurement

Utilising an instrument-grade circuit and a low-noise microphone, this sensor measures noise levels from 30 dBA to 130 dBA with a precision of ±1.5 dB. It features A-weighted frequency weighting, a frequency response of 31.5 Hz to 8.5 KHz, and a 125 ms response time.

Linear analog output

The module produces a linear analog output between 0.6 V and 2.6 V corresponding to the measured decibel range. This direct relationship allows microcontrollers to compute sound levels easily without needing complex conversion algorithms.

Wide voltage compatibility

Supporting an input range of 3.3 V to 5.0 V, the board draws 22 mA at 3.3 V and 14 mA at 5.0 V. The included 3-pin Gravity analog cable allows solder-free, plug-and-play connection to development boards.

Handling and mounting guidelines

The black film over the microphone is highly sensitive and should not be touched with fingernails or sharp tools. To avoid shorting the microphone pins, mount the 60 mm by 43 mm module on an insulating surface or suspend it using nylon standoffs.
